We supervise bachelor's and master's theses in the field of public finance and would be delighted if you are interested in writing your thesis at our institute.

Bachelor Theses

Please register via the central application process. All important information about registration, working time and supervision can be found on the website of the Faculty of Economics and Management.

Here you find guidelines for writing a Bachelor thesis (in German) at the Institute of Public Finance . Bachelor theses can be written in both English and German. If you have any questions, you are welcome to meet us during our office hours.

In the summer semester 2026 and the winter semester 2026/27, the following registration dates are available. Each registration date is assigned a fixed colloquium date. Further information on the colloquium can be found in the workflow for bachelor's theses (in German).

Topics

We recommend that you come up with your own ideas about a topic for your Bachelor thesis. Yet, it should fit into the scope of the areas of research and teaching of our chair. Possible areas of topics for your Bachelor thesis include:

  • Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance
  • Income and Wealth Inequality
  • Pensions and Investments
  • Taxes and Innovation
  • Public Finance and Environment & Climate Protection
  • Tax Law

Master Theses

If you are interested in writing a master's thesis at our institute, please contact Maximilian Todtenhaupt. We are regularly looking for master's theses on specific topics, but we would also be very happy if you suggested a specific topic yourself. All important information about registration, processing time and support can be found on the website of the Faculty of Economics and Management. Master theses can be written in both English and German at the Institute of Public Finance.

If you want to write your master's thesis at our institute, we expect you to:

  • Have a clear focus of work in the area of public finance
  • Have a quantitative empirical or theoretical analytical approach
  • Have a research-oriented question
  • Have successfully completed of the courses "Econometric Methods", "Advanced Econometrics", or "Empirical Methods for Policy Evaluation in Public Economics".
